10 Ways To Increase Your Affiliate Commissions

1. Participate in chat rooms related to the product you're reselling. Start a conversation with a person without trying to sell to them. Later on, while you are chatting, mention the product you're reselling.

2. Create a free ebook with the advertisement and link of your affiliate web site. The subject of the free ebook should draw your target audience to down-load it. Also submit it to some ebook directories.

3. Start your own affiliate program directory. Join a large number of affiliate programs and list them all in a directory format on your web site. Then just advertise your free affiliate program directory.

4. Write your own affiliate program ads. If all the other affiliates use the same ads you do, that does not give you an edge over your competition. Use a different ad to give yourself an advantage over all the other affiliates.

5. Use a personal endorsement ad. Only use one if you've actually bought the product or service for the affiliate program. Tell people what kind of benefits and results you've received using the product.

6. Advertise the product you're reselling in your signature file. Use an attention getting headline and a good reason for them to visit your affiliate site. Make sure your sig file doesn't go over 5 lines.

7. Join a web ring. It should attract the same type of people that would be interested in buying the product you're reselling. You could also trade links on your own with other related web sites.

8. Participate on web discussion boards. Post your comments, answer other people's questions, and ask your own questions. Include your affiliate text link under each message you post.

9. Create a free ezine. Use your ezine to advertise the affiliate programs you've joined. Submit your ezine to online ezine directories and promote it on your web site.

10. Start a private web site. Use it as a free bonus if people buy the product you resell. You could also allow people to join for free and you could advertise the affiliate program you've joined.

Are Affiliates in Demand?

Is there a demand for affiliate marketers today? Yes, there is a huge demand. One of the challenges faced in the affiliate marketing industry is that it sometimes sounds too good to be true: advertising that's guaranteed to work or it's free! Newcomers wonder if it's possible, and skeptics claim that the cost effective prices of affiliate marketing lower the bar for online advertising. But there is a good reason that affiliate marketing has experienced steady growth throughout the ups and downs of online advertising—it works. And affiliate marketing has evolved to become a reliable source of sales for a wide range of marketers.

Affiliate marketing has evolved from the early years when some touted it as the future of online advertising, and others claimed it was the downfall of the medium. It's now a sophisticated channel that generates anywhere from five to 25% of online sales for many of the world's biggest brands.

Almost all major multi-channel marketers have an affiliate program of some kind. The important thing to remember is that affiliate programs now come in all shapes and sizes. The concept of a wide-open affiliate program with an unlimited and uncontrolled number of affiliates is a thing of the past. Nearly all marketers agree that affiliates add value to an online marketing effort, but the program must be tailored to meet the marketer's objectives.

Affiliate marketing did not bring an end to other, higher priced forms of online media advertising.  The success of the affiliate marketing in delivering sales cost effectively by way of a pay-for-performance model paved the way for other forms of performance-based advertising, such as CPA-based search and portal advertising, to create acceptance among direct marketers. Affiliate marketing has evolved, with affiliates and marketers becoming more sophisticated and programs more integrated with other forms of online marketing.

The Age-Old Question Do You Need a Website?

The most important and indispensable thing to assure your success in affiliate marketing is your own website. The first step in any successful affiliate marketing business is building a good, credible and professional looking website. Your website is the jump off point of all your marketing efforts. Therefore, you must first build a user-friendly website, which will attract your prospects and motivate them to click on the links to the products and services you are promoting and make a purchase.  You must first focus your efforts in building a website that will cater to what your prospects need.

Above all else, make your website full of original, relevant and useful content. The most important thing you should consider is that almost all web users go online to look for information, not necessarily to go and buy something. People will love articles that are appealing and helpful. Keep in mind that, in the internet, content is still king and good quality content will not only build your credibility, it can also help you achieve a higher search engine ranking. By posting relevant and useful articles, you establish yourself as a credible expert in the field, making you a more dependable endorser of the product or service you promote. Establishing a good name is a good step in building up a dedicated consumer base. Dedicated customer bases are the life blood of affiliate marketers.

You must use every possible means on your website to motivate prospects not only to visit your site but also to click and proceed to the websites of the products and services you are promoting.

When you are creating your website, the possibilities are endless and are limited only by your imagination, originality, resourcefulness and resolve. You can always explore other ideas and adapt other strategies, which you think might help you become a high rolling affiliate marketer but not until you have a great website.

5 Essential Qualities You Need for Explosive Success in Affiliate Marketing

In general, there are two types of people. Those who like to take charge, who want to lead and command, and who are willing to take responsibility for their actions. Then, there are those who are a little more timid, and a lot more reluctant to blaze their own path; they're happy following the crowd.

The idea of being mere passengers on a ship meant to sail to the farthest points does not appeal to people who like to put their destiny into their own hands. Such are the kinds of people who are destined to excel in a home based business such as Affiliate Marketing. Even if they don't already possess the five "must have" traits to become hugely successful as affiliates, they're predisposed to being able to acquire these traits more easily than the average Joe.

They have the desire to maneuver the ship themselves, of being able to be the ones to take it anywhere they want to. Being aboard a ship on its way to a particularly great destination is something each and every one of them dreams of, and the knowledge that they have the power to steer it themselves is what makes them actually want to do it.

Maybe this is the reason why more and more people are turning to one of the most popular businesses around, affiliate marketing. It's because in this business, there are no bosses cracking their whip to order the employees around.

There are no deadlines to meet and no piles of work to be finished by day's end. In order to succeed in this fantasy-like perfect business, you need only be armed with the necessary tools.

Just what are the things needed to be able to succeed
  in affiliate marketing?

What kind of drive must you have within yourself to be
able to do well in this industry?

There is a lot of competition in affiliate marketing, and to be able to rise above the norm and get propelled forward, you have to be equipped with just the 'right stuff'.

There are five essential things you can't do without if you want to achieve glory in this business. Let's have a look at each of them in detail.

          A DESIRE TO LEARN

The very first quality you must possess is the desire to learn, along with the willingness to be trained.

Treading through unfamiliar territory is scary stuff, if you're lacking in what I like to simply call the proper equipment. This is a combination of the right mindset, the appropriate attitude, mixed with a pinch of a strong work ethic.

As a beginner, you have to be willing to keep your eyes and ears open, using the experience of others to learn the tricks of the trade as you go along.

One of the best ways to do this is by frequenting Forums that specialize in Affiliate Marketing, reading others members' posts and asking questions yourself. Devour everything that pertains to getting ahead in this business; the equivalent of an MBA degree is available to you in these Forums - and, at just the right price. There's no substitute for this kind of hands-on-learning.

          INVEST TIME AND EFFORT

The second quality one must possess is the willingness to invest time and effort in growing your business, even if direct results don't seem readily apparent. Although weeks may pass by without good news, it's important for anyone who has his/her foot in the business to hold on and wait.

Resist throwing in the towel prematurely. This is the core quality that will help keep you on course despite any discouraging setbacks you may run into.

          UNWAVERING DETERMINATION

The third quality you must possess is an unblinking determination. If you want to conquer the affiliate marketing world, you must have the ability to push yourself ahead. The ability to motivate yourself into scaling greater and greater heights will determine the kind of future you create.

Never knowing when to quit is an attribute that each and every beginning Affiliate Marketer needs to have in bunches. In fact, in any endeavor, this persistence that screams to the world "No, I won't budge!" is what distinguishes the winners from the also-rans.

          YOU MUST BE DISCIPLINED

The fourth quality you must have is self-discipline. If you teach yourself to work everyday with all the energy your heart can muster, then you're closer to achieving whatever goals your mind can conceive.

Once you start to slack off, the whole house of cards you're building begins to shake just before it crumbles. There's no room for 'goofing off' when you're running a home based business.

          THE QUALITY OF OPTIMISM

The fifth and last quality you must possess is optimism. Negative attitudes, whether your own or someone else's, should never discourage an affiliate marketer from pursuing his/herdreams in order to make life better for himself, and for everyone else who matters to him/her.

Your attitude toward the business should always be proactive, because you have to realize that you're the captain of your own ship and the master of your destiny.

The ingredients that lead to success in a business such as affiliate marketing are diverse and manifold, but the most important thing anyone needs to make it big lies in yourself alone.

It's that very desire which burns in your heart that's the fuel which will keep the engine going.

Affiliate marketing is all about putting your fate into your own hands. The right attitude is the key to being able  to steer your ship into that part of the ocean where serenity and smooth sailing can be found at last.

Basic Tools for Affiliate Marketing

In this article we will take a look at some of the basic tools you will need to be successful with affiliate marketing. Just because you are not creating your own products you are still running a business and need to treat it as such.

Blog or Website
As a business owner you need to have a home base to run your affiliate business from. This should be a blog or website. It is very easy and affordable to set up a wordpress site for your business. While there are free options it is recommended to buy a domain name, your blog address, and use a hosting company, this is where your site runs from. The total cost for these two things is around $20 and the monthly fee for hosting is less than $10.

Autoresponder Service
As an affiliate marketer you do not want to waste your time sending people to the vendors offer. Instead the smarter practice is to direct them to the affiliate offer on your own blog. On your blog you will have an opt in form to capture the email addresses of your visitors. This provides you with the opportunity to mail your list for days, weeks and years to come.

Now, you may ask why this is important? Most affiliate marketers will tell you that most prospective buyers do not always make a purchase the first time they click on your affiliate link.

If you send these buyers directly to the vendors site and they don't purchase, you have lost the sale. How can you connect with them again and find out why they didn't purchase - you can't.

On the other hand if you send them to your blog and they opt-in to your list you have their contact information. You can easily send out emails to them and provide them with more information or ask why they didn't purchase.

You are collecting and building your own data base of leads for all your affiliate marketing efforts. While a person may not like one product they may happily purchase others.

Using an autoresponder services allows you to mass mail people at one time. Plus you can schedule emails to go out while you are at work or out shopping.

Two of the most popular autoresponder services are Aweber and GetResponse, both have introductory trials for the first month.

While there are other tools that can help your affiliate business these are the basic ones that you should start with. Then as you become an experienced affiliate you may want to use tools that create landing pages and track who clicks on your links and how often.

Setting Yourself Up as an Affiliate Marketer

Many people approach affiliate marketing with the wrong viewpoint. Unfortunately they think that they can promote all kinds of products and easily make thousands of dollars per month. While top affiliate marketers do actually do this, it has taken them time and effort to achieve that top ranking status.

The minute you start promoting products you are gaining a reputation for yourself. If people purchase a product from you that they love, all is well. What happens if you recommend products that don't work, or are never delivered? Well, first the person you recommended this product to is not going to be happy. Secondly they will not trust your future recommendations, they will simply not purchase from your links anymore.

One of the first things you want to do is take the time to think about what type of products you want to promote as an affiliate. Do you have an interest in something particular? You may be a mountain bike enthusiast or a gardener.

Promoting products that you are knowledgeable about will benefit you in the long run. Mainly because you are most likely using these products yourself and can add your likes and dislikes about the item. As well you will enjoy writing blog posts and reviews on this topic and this will make your posts lively and engaging to read.

A good way to attract people to you is for you to set up your own blog. This way you have a platform or launch pad for your affiliate marketing career. If you do decide to promote products around one particular niche this is a great way to start.

As you post to your blog on a regular basis you simply start talking about products and items that are helpful. This way you are not flat out saying 'hey buy this' or 'buy that' all the time. You are just adding suggestions to your post in a natural way. Quite often people won't even realize that you are trying to sell them a product. Which, of course, is the best way to do this type of marketing.

If you are just starting out with affiliate marketing try to select a certain topic or niche first. Then fill your blog with interesting and helpful tips on this topic interspersed with recommendations. Before you know it you will be making a regular income as an affiliate.

Best Practices for Successful Affiliate Marketers

Affiliate marketing is an extremely popular way to make money on line. It is not always that easy though and it is important to know how to become a good affiliate. Use the following guidelines to help you increase your income with affiliate marketing.

1. Take the time to research and know the products that you are recommending.

2. Writing product reviews and including both the pros and cons of a product will help you earn a good reputation as an affiliate marketer.

3. Don't sent your readers or traffic directly to a vendor's site, ensure you have a way to capture their email address. Do this by sending traffic to your blog, this way you can follow up with prospective buyers.

4. Only recommend good products, preferably ones that you have used yourself. Plus try to offer products at various price points and keep a look out for special offers that will benefit your readers.

5. Research good affiliate programs that offer a variety of products. Checkout commission rates, payout points, and their return policies and customer service response.

6. Don't be afraid to ask for higher commission rates and for a review copy of a product. As you send a vendor more sales it will be easier for you to get a better commission percentage.

7. Take the time to set up your own website or blog. This will help you brand yourself as a marketer and give you a platform to publish your reviews, information and tips on products on.

8. Don't try and set up multiple sites in various niches. You will find that you don't have the time to manage them all. It is better to start with one site and get that making an affiliate income before starting another one.

9. As you build your list and site offer your visitors free reports that provide valuable information in your niche. Inside the report you can add your affiliate links.

10. Research your product so you know the demographics of your prospective buyers. What they like, where they live, what their income and education levels are. This allows you to directly 'talk' with them on your blog. They will identify with you more easily and be more trusting to purchase from you.

Use these above best practices to form the basics of your affiliate marketing business. Remember that you want to earn the trust and respect of your readers first. Once this happens they will start to buy more regularly from you and you will get to a point where sales begin to happen on a daily basis.

The Benefits of Being an Affiliate Marketer

Just about the biggest benefit to being an affiliate marketer is that you don't have to worry about creating any products and managing them. Instead you can focus on finding the best products to promote that will net you a good commission.

But you do still have a job to do as an affiliate marketer. First you want to ensure that you are only promoting good products to your list. If you begin to promote every product under the sun, good and bad. Your list will learn to not trust your judgement.

So it is vital that you take the time to research good products to recommend. If necessary ask the vendor for a review copy of the product, or purchase it yourself if you can.

The attraction of being an affiliate is the simplicity of the process. As we mentioned you don't have to be the one creating products all the time. Creating your own products can be costly and time consuming. It is often easier to just send traffic to an offer and reap the rewards.

As an affiliate your job is to direct traffic to a vendor's offer. If you can do this successfully you can build a great relationship with the vendor. They will appreciate your efforts and may even reward you with a higher commission rate. They will be happy to provide you with copies of their new products for review, as they know you will bring in many sales for them.

Gaining a good relationship with vendors is important as they will often recommend you as an affiliate to other vendors. In return this can help increase your income substantially.

Don't forget that you also want to develop a good relationship with your customers. You have to agree that it is much easier to earn an monthly income if you know that you have lots of repeat buyers on your list. It means you actively have to go out and find fewer customers.

This relationship with your customers is built upon trust and respect. This is accomplished by only recommending products that you have researched in depth. Or products that you personally use yourself.

While you may be tempted to promote higher priced items, keep a look out for special offers and deals that benefit the people on your list. After all they are your customers and are responsible for you making money from affiliate marketing each month.

What is Affiliate Marketing?

You may have heard the term affiliate marketing and have been told that it is a great way to make money from your computer. You might still be feeling a little confused about how it works, why it works and how to get started.

Affiliate marketing refers to a marketing method where you are basically becoming an online sales person. A vendor will own or create a product that they wish to sell. Of course, it is much easier to sell when you are surrounded by sales people. So the vendor sets up something called an affiliate program. When affiliates join this program they are promising to advertise certain products in return for a commission.

Payment Methods
Commissions are normally percentage based and are paid in cash. They can also be paid as free products or you may be given coupons, discounts or even advertising space on a popular website.
There are other payment methods that you need to be aware of. The first one is referred to as 'pay per sale' which gives the affiliate a reward every time a product is sold.

This is normally the percentage payment method.  To earn money with this method the affiliate needs to use a special link (affiliate link) and posts this links in blog post, articles, on social sites and even on their own advertisements.

The second type of method is known as 'pay per lead' this is where the affiliate gets paid each time they refer a lead to a company. Credit card companies use this type of program a lot. They recruit affiliates to advertise for them and each time a person fills out a form and becomes a lead the affiliate gets paid. Products that offer trials will also use this method.

The third type is called 'pay per click' and affiliates are given a commission for each time one of their links is clicked upon.

Benefits to Vendor and Affiliate
Affiliate marketing really does benefit both the vendor and the affiliate. Many times a person decides to promote a particular product because they have expertise with it. You may decide to promote woodworking because it is a hobby you enjoy. So, obviously, you have lots of experience to draw upon when it comes to writing or blogging about this topic. In turn this means that visitors to your site will connect with you, recognize your authority and be more willing to purchase items that you recommend. The vendor is more likely to see lots of sales coming through your affiliate links - a good thing.

For the affiliate the benefits include being recognized as an authority in their niche. It also means seeing regular income  and being rewarded from the vendor with free products and possibly higher commission rates. A good vendor will appreciate their top affiliates and have no issues in rewarding them.

Good affiliates can easily help a vendor improve their reputation and increase their sales. Good vendors will appreciate their top sellers and be happy to have products that are selling well. Affiliate marketing really is a win-win situation for both sides.

How to Make Money with Affiliate Links

The concept of affiliate marketing is very easy, you put up an affiliate link for people and when they purchase through it, you get paid. As with anything, there is a right and a wrong way to do this.

What is an affiliate link?
When you sign up or register for an affiliate program you are given a link. This link will track your sales, it is basically the way you will get paid. As people click through your link and make a purchase the sale gets credited to your account. When commissions are paid out you receive funds via a check or into your PayPal account.

Masking Your Link
An affiliate link will look something like this:
http://productname/?id=34598
The id portion is the part that identifies you as the affiliate. Now if you use this link as is you are leaving your link open for changes. Unfortunately there are people who will take your link and add theirs to it. They get credited for the sale and you lose out.

There are several ways around this. You can mask or hide your affiliate link by using software. A popular one is Pretty Link which actually works on your wordpress blog. Other link shortener's include bitly, ow.ly and even Google has its own link shortener.

The benefit of this is that your link is effectively hidden and ensures that you will get credited for any sales. Now please be aware that some affiliate programs do not track any links that are shortened. So look into this before doing so.

Hyperlinks
Using a hyperlink is another way to mask your link to a certain extent. You have no doubt seen hyperlinks as words or a string of text that is clickable. When you click on that link you are taken to an affiliate offer.

Here's how to do this:
If you are doing this in Microsoft Word or inside your wordpress blog it is very easy to hyperlink text.

1. Copy your affiliate link.
2. Highlight the words in your post that you want to link to.
3. Click on the icon at the top of your dashboard that looks like a link, it often has a picture of a globe with it.
4. A pop up box will appear asking you for the URL to link to.
5. Paste in your affiliate link.
6. You have just created a hyperlink.

This is often the best way to share your affiliate links and you can usually add hyperlinks in your emails as well. If you post images on your blog don't forget to add your affiliate link to those as well.

This will give you more exposure and more possibilities for making money with your affiliate links. Enjoy!

Where to Find Affiliate Products to Promote

Now that you have decided to become an affiliate marketer it is time to go out and find products that you can promote. You certainly have a lot of choices and today we will cover some of the top sites that offer hundreds of available products.

Some of the top niches that affiliates promote include the money making arena such as Internet Marketing, health and exercise and the dating niches. These are huge topics and while there is nothing wrong with promoting them you will find that lots of other affiliates are doing the same thing.

Your best plan of action is to try and find what we call a sub niche of one of these main ones. Let's look at the health niche as an example.
Health - this can be divided down into:

·         Weight loss
·         Juicing
·         Diabetes
·         Allergies
·         Raw food
·         Stress
·         Anti aging
·         Pain Relief

The list just goes on and on. At least you should be getting the idea of smaller niches that you can promote products to. Staying with the health niche you could focus on Anti aging and seniors. This gives you a wide range of products that you could promote including joint pain and arthritis supplements etc.

To find actual products to promote you can use the following sites:

·         Clickbank
·         JV Zoo
·         Warrior Forum
·         Nanacast

These sites are great if you are looking for internet marketing products. If you do want to focus on health products here are a few suggestions.

·         Market Health
·         Sell Health
·         Amazon
Commission Junction is a huge site that lists lots of different products including health supplements, yoga, kettlebells, crafts and more. You can pretty much find an affiliate program for any topic you can think of.

Don't forget that many of the large retailers have their own affiliate programs. This includes Wal-Mart and Toys R Us amongst others. You can also search online for specific forums just use the following search string:

Niche or topic + affiliate programs
One thing to remember with many affiliate programs is that they may be country specific. This means that they may not accept affiliates if you live in a certain country. This is either because their products are not available in that country or they cannot pay foreign affiliates. Something to be aware of.
You now have lots of options of where to find affiliate programs and products that are suitable for you to promote.
