How to Be Persuasive

No doubt you have experienced being persuaded to do or agree with something which you had no intention of doing in the first place. There are certain techniques to being successful when it comes to persuasion.  These following tips are perfect for using for your business or in your personal encounters.

 1. You need to establish something in common with the person or people you are planning on talking to. A great example of this would be sales people and lawyers. Both must persuade people to agree with them and then take an action, either buying a product or agreeing with your point of view.

2. The best way to persuade someone is by pointing out the benefits. Always highlight the main features and benefits of the product or service you are trying to sell. If you can relate the benefits to their job or situation your success rate will be higher. Don’t come over as pushy by trying to do nothing but sell the product, this will not produce any good results for you.

3. People are going to object when being persuaded and you can counter this by overcoming their objections. The best way to do this is to agree with the objection and then show the person how this can be overcome by using your product or service.

4. If you are offering a service to someone then it is often a good idea to get them to take you up on something small. Once they have agreed to that it is normally much easier for them to agree to using a larger portion of your service later on.

5. Don’t forget about the principle of helping someone out first before asking for anything. If you do this first when you ask for a favor the person may feel obliged to take you up without really thinking about it. A great example of this can be seen on Facebook, if you Like someone’s page they will often return the favor.

6. People like to follow trends and be with the in crowd or group. You can use this scenario to your advantage when it comes to persuasion. If you let people know that others are using your products and services then that doubt creeps into their minds that they should be using them also.  Of course you will need proof of this including reviews and testimonials for this to work effectively.

How to Get People to Say Yes

One of the biggest mistakes people can make is to start using force or hard selling tactics to get what they want. It is much better to use positive methods to achieve this instead. The best way to get people to say yes to you is by taking the time to build a solid relationship with them.

When you want to influence someone your best route is to understand that there is more to persuasion than meets the eye. You need to develop good communication skills to make this work effectively.

Your first step is to take the time to get to know your prospect and if you haven’t met them before this may take a little research on your part. Then when you do connect with them you want to use the know, like and trust factors before you even think about selling or persuading them to do something.
In order to be effective at persuasion you must fully understand your product or subject and its benefits and features.

This way you have the tools to know how to turn a negative into a positive. Your goal is to get them to understand what is in it for them if they take you up on your offer.

During your conversation you may run into emotions. In fact understanding people’s emotions is an important part of persuasion. How many times have you purchased something on a whim?

Advertising firms take advantage of this and target their ads to trigger emotions in people.
When people trust you they are more likely to say yes to your proposal. You can achieve this by always being honest and by being yourself when you meet people. Don’t try to be someone that you think your prospects are expecting. Just be yourself and you will see better results.

When you come across as honest, decent and trustworthy your acceptance rates will go through the roof. You will have no problems getting people to say yes to you. If you are trying to fake something your customers will see right through you.

Always be one hundred percent open and honest when dealing with people. Never try to force people into something instead learn the skills of successful persuasion.

Take the time to learn your product or service and all that it has to offer. Then use this information to effectively turn any no into a yes time after time.

Persuasion and Influence – How to Use It Correctly

If you have ever tried to influence or persuade someone to your way of thinking you know that this is not always an easy task to accomplish. People are not going to pay attention to you or take you seriously enough if you do not appear to be an authority figure.

To use persuasion effectively you have to command respect from people first. So before you even attempt to convince or turn a person into doing something for you, you must work on yourself first.
This can be achieved in several different ways and one is to become knowledgeable in the area that you are planning to discuss. This may take time but if you want to be known as the go to person then taking this step is imperative.

A good example of this would be for a related business topic. You might possibly be looking for a promotion and you need to learn new skills in order to achieve this. By taking the time to learn everything you can about this skill you will gain respect and authority from your co-workers and your superiors.

Then when you are ready to persuade or influence people you will immediately command respect. People will appreciate that you know what you are talking about and that you are worth listening to.
Once you have come this far you need to learn persuasion techniques which are subtle and yet effective. This will allow you to turn your audience to either agree with your view point, or take an action that you had previously desired.

Some of these techniques include knowing what common ground you and your audience have. Depending upon how well you know these people this may require some homework on your part.
Your next step is to point out the benefits of what you are saying and how it relates to them. Any turn someone hits you with an objection you don’t ever want to get mad. Instead you must turn this negative into a positive and get the person to agree in the end.

While all of this may sound a little overwhelming learning how to persuasive to get what you want does take time. The above are just a few of the techniques you can use to gain authority and brand yourself as an expert in your business.

How to Be a Persuader and Not a Numpty

How many times have you thought that a sales person was an utter ? Probably lots of times and the main reason for this was probably because they came on way too strong with their sales techniques.
Becoming an effective persuader means you took the time and effort to learn how to effectively use verbal skills to get what you want. The opposite end of this spectrum is being a manipulator or as many people like to say a dick!

When you try to manipulate someone you are trying to convince them to do something that you want them to. Persuasion is more about influencing your thoughts and ideas onto somebody. So while these two things are similar there are different methods used to get results with both. It is much better to be known for persuasion.

When you are persuading someone you are using reasoning, logic and you take the time to get to know what the person likes and what their desires are. You have their best interests at heart.
With manipulation you may try and build trust but you are not looking for any type of long term relationship. You really are just in it for the short term to gain something you want.

Even with persuasive techniques the minute you attempt to use force you have just turned into a jerk and you want to avoid this happening at all costs.

To be successful and to get people to do what you want then you need to target the other person first. You should spend time learning their likes and dislikes and make an effort to boost their confidence and self esteem. Your goal is to make them feel good about themselves especially when they are around you.

By doing this you will notice that whenever you connect with this person they will always react to you in a positive manner. People follow people and if one person reacts in this way to you, you can be assured that others will too.

Becoming a good listener is vital to enhance your new skill. You always want to agree with people’s objections. Then as an effective persuader you can skillfully turn these objections into positives.
No matter what you do you never want to lie to people and make up facts or stories that just aren’t true. Stay true to yourself and use verbal skills to get what you want without coming over as a jerk.
