How to Be Persuasive

No doubt you have experienced being persuaded to do or agree with something which you had no intention of doing in the first place. There are certain techniques to being successful when it comes to persuasion.  These following tips are perfect for using for your business or in your personal encounters.

 1. You need to establish something in common with the person or people you are planning on talking to. A great example of this would be sales people and lawyers. Both must persuade people to agree with them and then take an action, either buying a product or agreeing with your point of view.

2. The best way to persuade someone is by pointing out the benefits. Always highlight the main features and benefits of the product or service you are trying to sell. If you can relate the benefits to their job or situation your success rate will be higher. Don’t come over as pushy by trying to do nothing but sell the product, this will not produce any good results for you.

3. People are going to object when being persuaded and you can counter this by overcoming their objections. The best way to do this is to agree with the objection and then show the person how this can be overcome by using your product or service.

4. If you are offering a service to someone then it is often a good idea to get them to take you up on something small. Once they have agreed to that it is normally much easier for them to agree to using a larger portion of your service later on.

5. Don’t forget about the principle of helping someone out first before asking for anything. If you do this first when you ask for a favor the person may feel obliged to take you up without really thinking about it. A great example of this can be seen on Facebook, if you Like someone’s page they will often return the favor.

6. People like to follow trends and be with the in crowd or group. You can use this scenario to your advantage when it comes to persuasion. If you let people know that others are using your products and services then that doubt creeps into their minds that they should be using them also.  Of course you will need proof of this including reviews and testimonials for this to work effectively.
