So You Want to Be a Copy Writer?

There is no doubt that good copy writers can demand high prices for their sales copy. One thing that you need to remember is that it takes time and effort to hone your copywriting skills. If you enjoy writing and want to take a shot at copywriting there are a few things you should be aware of.

1. You must be prepared to study and learn everything you can about copywriting.
2. In order to demand huge prices you will want to become an expert in this field.
3. Remember that it will take time to really become proficient.
4. Expert copywriters get paid well but it can sometimes take days or weeks to write the copy.

The worst mistake you can make with copywriting is to think that you can write one piece of copy and charge the big bucks for it. You are much better off to start with lower prices and get results with your sales pages.

When potential customers see that your sales pages convert, as in they make the vendor sales, you will receive more requests for work. When this happens, then and only then, can you start to charge higher prices. Copywriting is not a way to make lots of money fast!

In order to become known as a copywriter you want to build up your portfolio. This can be done in several ways including offering to write copy for free or for a nominal or introductory price.

One good tactic that many new copywriters have done is to find an existing sales page that isn't converting well and re-write it. They then contact the product owner with their new sales page. When your page starts to make sales, you will have your first happy customer. This person is sure to write you a good review that you can use in your portfolio.

One way to practice your copywriting skills is to find headlines and rewrite them. Knowing how to craft enticing headlines is just one skill that you will have to learn.

Another idea is to start up a copywriting blog with tips and examples of your work. It is important to get your name known by potential customers and blogging is a perfect way to do just that.
If you enjoy writing then progressing to copywriting could be the perfect opportunity for you. It is definitely something that is worth looking into before making a final decision.
