Using Social Media to Make Persuasion Work for You

Today social media is a huge part of many people’s lives. Facebook has millions of users around the world and many of them log into their accounts before eating breakfast.

As a business owner you want to take advantage of these popular social trends and use them as persuasive methods. How many times have you liked or shared something in Facebook because something of yours was shared or liked first? This is known as reciprocity and this is an extremely powerful tool when it comes to persuasion.

Reciprocity is the method of giving a gift and then being given one back in return. Sales people use this all the time to get what they want. As a business owner you can give away a free sample of something and then later on proceed to sell this customer something more valuable.

So if you are building a Facebook page or even setting yourself up on Google+ you want to include things that people will want to share. Just be sure that you are proactive and share things for these people first.

The same goes with using Twitter if you retweet your followers messages they are more likely to do the same for you. Plus this is one way you can get your messages to go viral, by getting more and more people to retweet what you have to say.

The main thing to keep in mind when using any type of social media site is to always provide value to your followers and readers. Make your content informative and add in a solid mixture of fun, this can be done by using lots of images.

Don’t forget about using Pinterest to persuade people with pictures. They say pictures speak a thousand words so take advantage of this. If you want people to buy a product, post related images to expose them to the idea first.

When people do share, like or retweet or even leave comments make a point of thanking them for doing so. Be a real person and come out of the shadows and don’t just hide behind a business logo or banner.

You can easily use social media to become a better person when it comes to the art of persuasion. Always, always take the time and effort to build solid relationships with your followers and you will become an authority figure in no time at all.
